LinguaLink is a Discord bot that provides real-time translation services for Discord servers and users. By using LinguaLink, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2.1 Data We Store

LinguaLink stores the following minimal data locally on our servers:

2.2 Data We Process (But Do NOT Store)

The following data is processed temporarily but is NOT stored or logged:

• Message Content: Messages sent for translation are processed by our self-hosted LibreTranslate instance and immediately deleted after translation
• Discord Metadata: Message IDs, timestamps, and author information are used for functionality but not stored

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

• Provide Translation Services: Process and translate messages between 22 supported languages
• Remember User Preferences: Store your selected language to provide personalized translations
• Enable Auto-Translate: Automatically translate all messages in configured channels
• Improve Service Quality: Use anonymous statistics to monitor performance and identify issues
• Comply with Legal Obligations: Respond to legal requests when required by law

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 LibreTranslate (Translation Engine)

LinguaLink uses LibreTranslate, an open-source machine translation engine, to process translations. Important details:

• Self-Hosted: LibreTranslate runs on our own servers - we do NOT use third-party translation APIs
• No Data Sharing: Your messages are NOT sent to external companies or services
• No Logging: LibreTranslate does not log or store message content
• Immediate Deletion: Messages are deleted immediately after translation

4.2 Discord Platform

LinguaLink operates as a Discord bot and is subject to Discord's infrastructure:

• All messages on Discord are subject to Discord's Privacy Policy
• Discord User IDs and Channel IDs are public identifiers provided by Discord's API
• We do not have access to data that Discord doesn't provide through their API

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Where We Store Data

All data is stored on our secure servers located in Germany, ensuring compliance with EU data protection regulations.

5.2 How We Protect Data

• Encryption: Data transmission is encrypted using industry-standard protocols
• Access Control: Only authorized personnel have access to stored data
• Regular Backups: Data is backed up regularly to prevent loss
• Security Monitoring: Systems are monitored for unauthorized access
• Minimal Data: We only store what is absolutely necessary

You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. You can:

• Remove the bot from your server (automatically deletes associated data)

• Note: Anonymous statistics cannot be deleted as they are not linked to you

6.3 Right to Rectification

You have the right to correct inaccurate data. Update your language preference using the !tr lang <code> command.

6.4 Right to Data Portability

You have the right to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (JSON). Contact us to request your data export.

6.5 Right to Restrict Processing

You have the right to restrict how we process your data. Remove the bot from your server to stop all data processing.

6.6 Right to Object

You have the right to object to data processing. Simply remove the bot from your Discord server.

6.7 Right to Withdraw Consent

You can withdraw consent at any time by removing the bot or deleting your language preferences.

6.8 Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Children's Privacy

LinguaLink is intended for users who meet Discord's minimum age requirements (13+ in most regions, 16+ in some EU countries). We do not knowingly collect data from children under the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

8. International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in Germany (EU). If you are accessing LinguaLink from outside the EU, please note that your data will be transferred to and processed in the EU. We ensure adequate safeguards are in place for such transfers in compliance with GDPR.
